ROAM data of the regular version

Dedicated Wave Kite

The Roam’s 3 strut, large wingtip design makes it a dedicated wave kite like no other. The thick LE tube, combined with our use of KP-E DACRON and Teijin double ripstop allow this kite to provide session saving water relaunches. The deep foil profile in combination with a moderate arc provide for sharp responsive turns, maximum drift, and low end power all with a large sheeting range.

Sizes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.5 & 12

STRUCTURE

SHAPE

Built for the dedicated wave rider with a moderate arc makes the roam a fast turning kite combined with a large sheeting range.

RATIO

The Roam’s low aspect ratio design and deep foil profile allow for maximum drift and low end power.

3 STRUT FRAME

The Roam’s 3 strut “boxy” frame results in its big lifting wingtips allowing the kite to effortlessly drift down the line while maintaining positive steering with tight pivot turns for ultra fast changes of direction.

The entire frame is built with tested and proven KP-E dacron providing incredible strength, durability, and rigidity. Where our competition choose to reinforce their closing seams with only mark cloth, we use more KP-E because we believe reinforcement materials should be at least as strong as its base.

BRIDLES

A fixed short line bridle with a floating V design and a two pulley system creates direct and snappy response while also keeping bar pressure low. New to this generation are larks head loops on front bridles, and knots on the back lines making for an innovative system that stabilizes the leading edge. This allows the Roam to lift out of a loop and avoiding a stall for maximum climb.

SAFETY SYSTEM

A single front line flag out systemin is used allowing the rider to achieve maximum de-power if the trim loop release is activated..

WARNING! It is crucial that the bar you are using utilizes this system.

Note: For Next Gen kites we have changed the bridles on our kites so that the front attachments have loops and the back attachments have knots.

In order to use a previous generation Ocean Rodeo bar with a Next Gen kite, you must first install the OR Bar Bridle Adapter Kit (which can be purchased from a dealer or directly from Ocean Rodeo) to the bridles on the kite. This will change the bridles so that the front attachments have knots and the back attachments have loops. Thus making it compatible with the older model bars. Click here for more information.

MATERIALS

DIMENSION POLYANT K-PE DACRON

Dimension Polyant’s K-PE dacron utilizes PEN (polyethylene naphthalate) fibers in the warp direction. PEN has a higher modulus than polyester and these fabrics exhibit approximately 30 to 40% lower stretch than their polyester equivalents. This makes K-PE the ideal choice for kite dacron where low stretch is a top priority.

K-PE fabrics are produced utilizing DP’s patented X-PLY® technique assuring reliable performance and the highest quality lamination available on the market.

TEIJIN TECHNO FORCE D2 RIPSTOP

Designed specifically for the kiteboarding market, Teijin’s Technoforce D2 Ripstop has high tear resistance, low stretch, and is incredibly light weight.

Each Strand of yarn is individually coated before being woven together. A second surface coating is then applied to the material, providing long term endurance.

Teijin D2 is the benchmark in quality with proven superiority in durability and dynamics.

FEATURES

 SPEED INFLATION SYSTEM

Every aspect of our Speed Inflation system has been fine tuned over the years to be low profile, reduce drag, and above all to ensure that you spends less time on the beach and more time on the water.

Our strut to leading edge connector tubes are designed with a subtle curvature and wide opening, reducing restrictions to air flow and features quick clamps for added security, ease of install, and a clean finished look

Our Italian designed valve features a direct hose to valve connection for simple operation. The wide threaded cap is easy to tighten and even easier to unscrew eliminating  “jammed valve cap syndrome”.  The cap is leashed to the kite, and the valve cover is form fitted for a smooth no snag fit.

 ARMORTEX® ABRASION GUARD

Ultra-light, non fraying, and abrasion resistant, these Kevlar/ nylon blend scuff protection pads deliver a streamlined no snag profile throughout the kite.

 TRIM EQUALIZER

Keeps line lengths equal when fine tuning kite turning speed.

 BUCK STITCHING

This three stage zig-zag stitch, combined with 10mm tape, distributes the seam load and creates a tear resistant, long lasting seam.

 LOAD DISTRIBUTION

15 years of kite design and manufacturing has taught us more than a few tricks about using strategic seam placement to reduce the stress points between the trailing edge’s dacron and the canopy’s ripstop materials. This combinded with load distributing reinforcement patches enhance the kite’s performance and durability.

 VARIABLE LINE LENGTH

Tailor your kite’s performance to match your riding style and launch conditions. Longer lines generate more power while shorter lines increase speed and response. Ultra-short lines provide immediate rider feedback to the kite and a direct, snappy feel with added advantage of simplified line management at tricky launching and landing sites

The Stick Shift

The Ocean Rodeo Stick Shift Bar truly unlocks the full potential of your next gen kite lineup. This back line trim bar gives the ability to dial in and adjust your trim line without the need to overreach. With R3’s patented innovative sidewinder nob, the Stick Shift allows for accurate adjustment no matter how rugged the conditions are. Tried and tested on the rugged waters off of Vancouver Island, this bar is built tough with an elegant ease of use.

PUMP LEASH ATTACHMENT

Secure and located for maximum kite hold down while pumping up

BRIDLE STORAGE TABS

Stash your bridle ends after each session in these low profile Velcro tabs. Quick, safe setup is all about efficient line management.

EASY ACCESS PORT FOR BLADDERS

Another nice refinement, zip entry access to bladders is neatly finished to ensure opening and closure is simple and clean

SELF RESCUE HANDLES

We hope you never have to use these, however they are on hand if required. Tucked up and out of the way on the inside of the leading edge tube. To identify look for the arrows screened on the LE tube

 TECH BAG

The Kite Bag comes standard with all 2020 kites.

Wind chart colour matched lables.

To make things even easier the Sherpa kite bag is color coded via strategically placed color coded size labels.  Aligned to match wind strength colors used by leading web based wind forecast websites, with a quick glance you’ll know if you’re grabbing a 17m or 9.5 m.

WIND RANGE

INTRODUCING THE WORLD’S LIGHTEST AND STRONGEST KITES…

OCEAN RODEO FORMALLY RELEASES THE NEW ALUULA AIR FRAME KITE SERIES

Vancouver Island, Canada
February 17th, 2020

Following many months of R&D, concept iterations, and worldwide testing in all kinds of environments, the final Aluula air frame kites are now in production, and the first batch has fanned out to key dealers across the world.

These kites represent the latest and most exciting stage in Ocean Rodeo’s ongoing mission to reduce overall kite weight while enhancing strength and performance. We are proud to formally unveil to you the world’s lightest and strongest performance kites: the Aluula-series (A-Series) Roam and Flite.

Built with the ground-breaking new Aluula composite material which weighs in at just 82 grams per square meter, the material is 100% UV stable and virtually unrippable. Strength is also improved with Ocean Rodeo’s new Ridge Seam which has been designed specifically for the Aluula composite material and increases seam strength by over 40% compared to traditional stitching methods.

With the widest and most accessible wind range ever seen, the A-Series kites allow for enhanced light wind performance and hold their shape and control in overpowered situations. Where Dacron would distort, Aluula remains rigid, with the low-stretch, quick-flex properties of the Aluula air frame resetting any distortion significantly faster than traditional Dacron air frames. The result is improved control when reaching the kite’s top end, and improved performance throughout the wind range.

The Aluula air frame delivers instant feedback not only from your bar input, but also from the wind, with gusts and lulls instantly transmitted to your control system, giving you the ability to maximize your kite’s power, depower and turning potential, revolutionizing your kitesurfing experience.

Richard Myerscough, Ocean Rodeo founder & CEO: “With our Aluula-Series kites, we’ve managed to expand the wind range both up and down. I’ve had test sessions on the 10m Roam where others on 8m and 7m kites were being blown off the water. And in light winds, I’ve been out and having an absolute blast on the 10m, where 12m Dacron kites are falling out of the sky. These kites are like highly tuned super cars with responsive suspension. You really get to feel the wind like never before, it is incredible.”

The Aluula-Series kites will be available to consumers from spring 2020. Follow @oceanrodeo on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates and check the #Aluula and #LightKiteLeaders hashtags for incoming media.

Yesterday I got a change to fly the Aluula Roam 10m. Wind side on, gusty, 13-22 knots. Normally strapless on 633 hydrofoil with with my 76 kg I'd be uncomfortable flying overpowered, but with this kite I could easy sail in gusts and lulls, without being pulled of the board. Kite flew steady all the time. I hope to try the kite in low wind conditions. I've seen it relaunch easily in sub 10 knots.
